Countertechnique®:
Countertechnique® provides tools for body and mind to deal with the demanding dance practice of the 21st century. It is a movement system to help the dancer understand the dancing body, focusing on the process of incorporating information into action. Within a clear structure of exercises, the Countertechnique class thoroughly prepares the body for rehearsal and performance. It enables dancers to move bigger, more fluidly and more spatially, while becoming stronger and more flexible. Dancers are encouraged to be proactive in discovering connections and solutions, to be less concerned with judging themselves, and to work in a healthy way with regard to both body and mind. Countertechnique makes daily training a valuable investment in the dancer’s own development, as well as interesting personal research. Countertechnique® was created and developed by Dutch choreographer, dancer and teacher Anouk van Dijk, former artistic director of Australian dance company Chunky Move.
Practical Tools:
This one hour workshop will dive a bit deeper into one or two elements from class, allowing dancers to further investigate how to incorporate information into the moment of dancing.
Alexander Technique:
This 1 hour workshop offers dancers a practical, experiential introduction to the Alexander Technique—a method that helps reduce unnecessary effort and supports greater ease, coordination, and freedom in movement. Through simple movement explorations, gentle guidance, and everyday dance movements, participants will discover how small shifts in awareness can lead to more efficient technique, increased stamina, and a greater sense of support in the body.
Designed to complement any dance style, this session emphasizes curiosity over correction and experience over explanation. Dancers will leave feeling more connected, less strained, and equipped with tools they can immediately apply in class, rehearsal, and performance.
PRIVATE LESSONS:
Schedule a private session with Morgan Rydson! Privates will be held after classes between 2:30 and 5:30 in Fly’s Lab Space. Schedule a 30 minute or 1 hour session with Morgan by emailing her: morgan@atcenterstudio.com
30 minute session: $65 ($85 if booked after March 5)
1 hr session: $95 ($125 if booked after March 5)
