BUNK BEDS:
Bunk Beds is a new response in a series of choreographic works originally devised by Tristan Koepke and Benny Olk. Their first work, There’s Only One Bed (2023), explored themes of queer longing, desire, devotion, masculinity, and melancholy, inspired by the creative and amorous relationship between Merce Cunningham and John Cage, Instagram thirst traps, speculative masculinities, and romance novel tropes. Their sequel, There’s More Than One Bed (2024) continued to interrogate what devotion and commitment to love, longing, and process can look like when you make room for more than two. Drawing inspiration from Andie Nordgren’s manifesto for relationship anarchy, Bunk Beds (2025) reiterates and expands the choreographic material and creative inquiries from those previous works with a film installation and performance that ruptures and refracts into something uniquely new. Seeking to reframe and transcend conventional narratives of Cunningham and Cage’s collaborations, which often diminish their queer romance and radicalism, Bunk Beds catalyzes the ways in which LGBTQ+ artistic legacies are preserved, embodied, and reimagined.
