WHAT IS IT?
Poetry in the present—bathed in natural light and embodied with sound and immersive movement. This space allows you to explore the texture of voice, rhythm, and form. The Poetry Won't Sit Still project began as a collection of poems and sonic soundscapes for meditation, movement, and spontaneous creation. The project has since grown into an event series with the same intention, fostering engaging relationships between artists of different mediums and promoting self discovery. PhaeMonae and Sedeso invite you to join in the conversation between aerial movement, live music, and poetry at Fly on the Wall. Intentional participation is encouraged. Spoken Word and The Spiral: The spiral apparatus informs us about the curved form and invites us to explore our own flow. To bend, to be hollow, to cradle into community. These are all acts of resistance that nurture healing. Curving inward for regeneration. Focus on your breath, release , and drink your water. Pray to the water, thank you I Love You for all that you are. This spiral collaboration between PhaeMonae and Sedeso carves new spaces for collective healing. A unique iteration of Poetry Won't Sit Still that brings life to the edge of stillness, and focused intention to face the wildness with fluidity. Be like the ocean flow and be untamed.
BIOS:
Bio(s) of artist/organization/company Sedeso is a Maryland-born first generation Caribbean-American. With strong roots in the islands Anguilla and Antigua yet growing up in the US, she works closely with the idea of intersectionality. She comes from a deeply woven legacy of crafters, writers, and musicians, and holds these close within her multi-disciplinary movement and literary art. These planted seeds began to bloom in her work when she moved to Atlanta, Georgia to expand her creative career. Since then, she has produced a live adaptation of her 2019 book release "Speaking Fire at the Wellhead", at cultural hub Gallery 992 with accompanied live music, painting, and contemporary dance. In 2022 she began her newest project "Poetry Won't Sit Still" at the Atlanta Underground and has curated three installations thus far. This series has hosted a diverse selection of local and international artists to converse across mediums of movement, voice, and instrumentation. For her three years living in Atlanta, she also worked to deepen her professional dance experience by working with glo ATL: a southern women, artist-led intergenerational platform. PORTFOLIO: https://portfolio.sedeso.art ARTIST STATEMENT/PRACTICE: “The continuous conversation with all life around us; is the ground I stand on most strongly, and the softness that I relax into. This is the conversation and language of my heritage, one that I carry in the body and on the tongue; as a moving artist, storyteller, and poet. In my art I explore the nuances of nature, connection, transformation, and embodiments of love.”
